Clean install hangs copying Windows Executive

Jeff

When attempting to install Windows XP SP1 on a new system
(new hd) the install starts up and then after passing by
the custom driver F6 prompt stuff and the recover disk it
says windows is copying files (Windows Executive...) and
there it sits and sits and sits.

I've check my Bios settings to make sure things were ok,
I've set the bios to do the bare minimum (fail safe)
install. Each and every time I try this the same thing.
I've removed everything but the video card so there are no
PCI conflict issues, just my AGP ATI All in Wonder 128.

MB is a Abit VP6, 1 Ghz, 512 Ram, 120 Gig hd. VIA chipset.

HELP!

I replaced the video card with GForce card and I got
beyond the above Windows Executive stuff. It loaded all
the drivers and then displayed Starting Windows ... this
went on for about 5 minutes and I was about to groan yet
further when the lights on the keyboard flickered and then
I got something like - processing inititation file
message. And that is where it stayed. So I'm ahead in
the game but not very far.
