Clean install and sata drivers...what happens?

I am about to do a clean install of XP pro...I am running an 80 gig WD sata
HDD on an MSI k8N Neo Platinum board (rev 1).
I recall from the first install, I had to install sata drivers. I am
curious to know, if I do a clean install now...will I need to reinstall stat
drivers?
I installed them from the MSI mainboard disk prior, I do not have that disk
anymore( misplaced), ...
suggestions?
Thanks

If you do a clean install, you WILL have to reinstall the drivers. Go to
the computer or MB manufacturer's web site and see if you can find and
download the drivers BEFORE you reformat the drive.

Thats what i thought...how should i retain them...cd?
Should I just dump the files on a disk uncontained( not in folders etc.)

If your SATA drive shows up in the BIOS you do not need SATA drivers.
There is a difference between a solo SATA HDD and SATA RAID.
Another sure way is to boot from the XP CD and see if the SATA drive
shows up for install. You can always F3 back out of the setup.

your name (& Frank):
It's entirely possible that your SATA HDD can be detected by the BIOS but
you will still need the SATA controller driver to be installed before the XP
OS will recognize the drive. While most of the motherboards currently being
produced have, in effect, built-in SATA controller drivers for a non-RAID
configuration, quite a few motherboards do not. So it's necessary to install
the SATA controller driver (via the F6 floppy disk routine) during the
installation of the OS.

In any event, check your motherboard's User Manual for information on this
and/or with your motherboard's manufacturer(http://www.msi.com.tw) to
determine if such driver is necessary and if so, whether you can obtain same
from the manuf.

Put them on a CD or floppy disk (if you have a floppy drive in your
machine.) You will need them just after starting the install of the OS (F6
for drivers.) Since I haven't installed a system where I needed SCSI or
SATA drivers for a long time, I can't remember if the system will allow you
to go out to a non-system-disk hard drive to retrieve the drivers, but I
don't think it will. It will not go to a USB drive. If you have them on the
"system-to-be" hard drive, when you reformat the drive you will dump the
drivers.
