Clarification of Sharing Mailboxes in Outlook

Objective: Share a Mailbox between many users AND have ALC control over it.

Environment: Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003
Shared Account has an INBOX, Inbox has a Subfolder called Test.

Scenario 1: By default, Person X cannot view the shared Inbox without
setting a permission within outlook to allow person X to view the contents.
This allows person X to "only" see the shared Inbox. Ideally, I want Person
X to see the Inbox and any subfolders it may have. Also, I cannot seem to
create some type of favourite to this shared Inbox. Therefore, Scenario 1
does not meet my needs.

Scenario 2: I've solved most Scenario 1's problems by going into Active
Directory Users and Computers and granting Person X Full Mailbox access to
the shared mailbox. This is great, now I can use the "Open Additional
Mailboxes" Feature.
(If i don't grant full mailbox access, there is no way to view the inbox and
subfolders)

These are the issues i'm having with Scenario 2:
I want to be able to hide ALL the extra stuff (tasks, calendar, drafts, sent
to...) except INBOX and its subfolders. I have not been able to work out a
way.

I also want to be able to set permissions on the Subfolders of INBOX. Since
Person X has full mailbox access, it does not appear like I can restrict
Person X's access at all (eg, prevent deleting/viewing of certain emails in
other subfolders).

Now, please tell me that there is an easier way do all this. I've explored
Public Folders, it has its own pro's and con's. Public folders provides full
redundancy and full ACL but not enough flexibility with handling emails.

Any help with the issues from Scenario 2 would be greatly appreciated.

You don't need to grant full mailbox access. Using Outlook to manage folder permissions, grant Read access to the root folder and the other folders that you need the user to see.

Ah, Yes.... those permissions worked perfectly. Thanks for pointing out that
I had to grant permissioms at the root level for it to work.

Cheers
Anthony.
