Claria Dataminer/Spyware

The following was posted in a discussion group I am a member of. Is this
correct? Any comments appreciated.

................but it would appear that M$ who
used to implant a dataminer called Alexia, whenever one had them correct a
copy of Internet Explorer, has now decided that waiting until one fixed IE
wasn't good enough. So now they have written a new dataminer called Claria,
which they appear to implant with any upgrade to IEx. Completely up to date
Anti Spyware programs: Ad-Aware SE Build 1.05 and Spybot 1.3 will detect
either of these dataminers, but only Spybot detects Gain Gator.......

Nope. Claria did formerly advertise under the name of Gator, and was
notorious for planting spying adware into various "freeware" programs
(including the Babylon translator), which would then not run, if you
removed the Gator component. I've never heard of any co-operation of MS
with Gator or Claria.
