cig-bin folder being deleted with uploading

Hi,

I am hosting a site on a linux server and when I go to upload the site for
the first time FP deletes the cgi-bin folder. The only way the ISP can get it
back [and functional] is to recreate the server hosting account from new.

I need to use the cgi-bin folder for database scripts and do not want it
deleted when uploading. How can I prevent this please.

Publish the cgi-bin from the server back to your machine.
Then add files to it and publish.

Also make sure the permissions are set at 755 on the server

database.

Do I therefore have to check this cgi-bin folder each time before uploading
and drag back the new files etc - so I do not over write them.

Or once I have the folder on my compter it will ignore future changes to the
folder and just let it and its contents go unchanged?

If the site has the FP extensions, then have the host convert the cgi-bin folder to a FP
subweb/site, then when you publish, FP will not touch the folder, unless you select to include
subwebs/sites.

it so this method would make it difficult to publish these easily.

Thanks Andrew that sounds like a great idea - but how?

I use FP 2002 and it appears to only allow me to select 'do not publish' on
files only not folders. [option greyed out when selecting folders]

Am I doing something wrong?

Rarely do I ever have a need to publish subwebs/sites as part of the root web. If I had a need to do
this often or on a regular basis, then I would reconsider having the folders as subwebs/sites.

MS really should have included Don't Publish folder feature in 2003...seems
silly that you can Don't Publish pages/files but not a folder.

Anyone know if Jim's Don't Publish will apply to folders on the server so
that when you publish-down you can keep the stats folder from coming down
too?
