Can anyone tell me why, after several months of normal operation,
cidaemon.exe would start utilizing most of my physical memory and 800+MB of
pagefile?
About 5 minutes after startup, my system comes to a crawl with little to no
response and HDD activity skyrockets.

I have scanned for viruses/trojans/worms and spyware and haven't found
anything more concerning than tracking cookies.

I have alleviated the issue by disabling the indexing service (which I
understand cidaemon.exe is part of).

Any reasons why this would occur?

Thanks for your time and attention.

You can shut this service off via: admin tools>services

Thanks MAP.

Strange, I disabled it and all is well, but still I'm curious as to why it
happened.

Because by default it is set for manual start and, somehow, you managed to
start it - maybe during a search.
