CHM Help Files won't open

Says it all -- I double click on a .chm file and get a message saying
it can't be opened. I double-click on the help link within a program,
which should lead to a chm file, and nothing happens -- no help, no
message.

What's going on here?

I admit, I rarely use help, but I've just started using Dragon
Naturally Speaking, and I NEED HELP!

Wasn't there some kind of an update in the last year that affected
help files? chm files?

I did that. But I still get the message. It says:

"Cannot open the file: mk:mad:MSITStore:C:\ *** --then it gives the file
path and name.

Plan B?

Try re-registering the HTML Help control. Click Start, Run and enter

regsvr32 %systemroot%:\windows\system32\hhctrl.ocx

If the above command fails, ensure that you have a copy of the HHCTRL.OCX file in the Windows\System32 folder. If not, there should be a copy in the Windows\System32\dllcache folder. Copy this one to Windows\System32 folder and run the above command again.

Arrrrrrrgh.

I reregistered -- no such module exists.
I searched for HHCTRL.OCX files iand found THREE:
1. the System32 folder. It is 5.2.3790.233.
2. in the "Last Good" folder, with version 5.2.3735.0.
3. in the Service Pack i386 folder with version 5.2.3664.0.

Please suggest what I should do next?

Duh, my bad................. Didn't realize the command line was that screwed up.

Just click Start, Run and enter

REGSVR32 HHCTRL.OCX

The Windows\System32 folder should, by default, be in the PATH statement, so it should be the first copy of this OCX it finds.
