When I run chkdsk it indicates the volume is good.
However, when I run chkdsk \r it says it found errors &
corrected them. I've done this 3 times succesivly; each
time having it report errors found & corrected. How many
times should you/can you run chkdsk /r?

You didn't mention what kind of errors the /r switch
found - anything serious?
It's my understanding that if the dive is NTFS,
chkdsk by itself will miss some things.

You should look at the info returned /f and /r
to evaluate your drive.

If concerned, download a diagnostic program from
the manufacturer of the drive.

None.

As soon as you realise the HD is failing, you evacuate and replace it.
