Chkdsk /p on daily basis to make computer run

This question may not be too clear, but I've had trouble finding the root of
this problem: My computer slows down 2-3 times a day, at which point I have
to shut down, reboot with the CD and run chkdsk /p from Dos. It is the only
way hat I can get the computer functioning for4 -6 hours at a time. I have
done every virus/spyware scan imaginable, reinstalled drivers, reinstalled
xp, and still nothing. Is there anyone who has this problem, or anyone who
can tell me how to seek out a log of the error as it only says there were
"errors that were corrected" so I can pinpoint this?
Thanks much.

Don't overlook the possibility of a physical hard driver problem.
Download a test utility from the manufacturers website
and do a complete test.

Backup data first, some HD diags will mark bad sectors without trying to
relocate data contained in them.

Hi Steve,

I have actually had this problem on several IBM PC's where they would
either slow down or lock up after being on for several hours. At first I was
changing out hard drives because I was getting a message in Event Viewer that
I had a bad disk or that a block was unreadable. After this happened to about
3 PC's in a row I began to investigate further and found out that the CPU fan
was shutting down for no apparent reason other then it was just lazy, I
guess. This was causing the PC to overheat dramatically and when I would shut
down and restart the fan would start to run again and then after a little
while it again would shut down and the computer would either lock up or slow
down. I checked the fan connections but found no problem there, so I went
into the BIOS and changed the fan control from normal to on. I have had no
further problems with any of my IBM PC's since.
