On boot up on my Vista Home Premium OS, I am getting a screen that says that
it needs to check for consitency on one of my drives. It then attempts to run
CHKDSK and freezes at 2%.
Can anybody help me?

The following may help - I have to do it this way in XP - not sure if
the instructions work in Vista

Start Windows in "Safe mode with Command Prompt" (F8 on startup)
At the command prompt, enter chkdsk.exe^/f press Enter
If Chkdsk wants to schedule a check at the next boot, say Yes
enter shutdown^-r^-t^01 then press enter to restart Windows
Chkdsk should run on restart

You've gotten some good suggestions about running Chkdsk. I just wanted
to mention that if you still can't run Chkdsk, there is a good chance
the hard drive is failing. Newness of the hardware is irrelevant; in
fact, if hardware is going to fail it will usually do so pretty quickly
or go for years. If that drive holds data, back it up to external media now.

So if you continue to get freezing, it would be a good idea to run a
diagnostic on the hard drive. Get the diagnostic utility from the drive
mftr.'s website. You will create a bootable CD with the file you
download. You will need third-party burning software to do this such as
Roxio, Nero, or the free DeepBurner.

Boot with the CD you made and do a thorough test of the drive. If it
fails any physical tests, replace it.
