CHKDSK every 2-3 days

About 6 wks ago I had hard drive replaced because CHKDSK
started running
daily and I finally received SMART FAILURE errors and then
PC wouldn't boot
up.

CHKDSK had been running about 1 a week for last 4 weeks
and now every 2-3
days for the last 8-9 days. The log would show
deleting entries in index $I30 of file 5223, Object.map &
Index.map. These
are the same errors I received before drive was replaced.

However, today there was a different error:
deleting wbemess.log in index $I30 of file 5215

1. Why are these errors occurring?
2. What is WBEM, other than Windows Management
Instrumentation Tester which
means nothing to me? and how did WBEM get invoked?
3. What do I need to do to prevent these errors?

I have a 60gig hard drive with 512 RAM and the OS is
Windows XP Pro, with
latest updates.
I do have McAfee Security and SpyBlocker running.
There have been 2 power failures within last 8 months but
I have a UPS so I
have been able to shut down properly until power restored.
I don't leave the PC running all night; it gets booted up
in the AM and shut
down at end of day.

Any insight would be most appreciated.

Some brands of hard drives have been known to have problems. Which are you
using?
