Hi,
a week ago my oc was infected by a polymorph virus called Win32:Delf-AAR,
and it's infected two of the System Volume Information files, so i moved
these two files to the virus vault, and waited for awhile to see if my
machine would suffer any adverse reactions to that, and it didnt, so i
decided to delete the file (as my anti-virus isnt abale to heal or repair
those files, after deleting it, i found my pc unable to run chkdsk, it keeps
on saying cannot open volume for direct access, so i tried doing the chkdsk
from the cmnd form, with both the /x and /f command, but rebooted, nothing
happens, it's as if i never commanded that chkdsk be ran....the thing is, i
nvr installed the known program that could cause this prob like, spyware
doctor, i do hv zonealarm, but nvr hd this prob b4....or other know progs
that may cause this prob...so by deleting these two system volume files,
could it have affected chkdsk, or could any softwares that i've recently
installed be causing this, and can i repair or reinstall the two files that
i've deleted by repairing xp from the CD, given? pls help!! thanx!!!

The volume files you are talking about are your system restore points,no
anti-virus program can access these files (they are protected by the
system). I don't think the two problems are related but who knows, I do know
that your system restore points will no longer work anymore because each
restore point is dependant apon the last one before it.Shut off system
restore and reboot then turn SR back on again and create a new check point
to get it working again.

Look at line 82 left side for your check disc problem.

NOTE: There are two registry files on this line, "enable and disable"
download them both, and run the enable one and see if chkdisc with run.

Good Luck!

Try booting into the Recovery Console and running CHKDSK from there.

The recovery console needs the pasword for the person who installed XP, not
for just any administrator. If the install was done by a major PC maker,
you may need to contact them for it.

However, the password is sometimes blank. So, try just pressing enter when
you are asked for a password, it may help.

Or, if you can get into XP, even safe mode, you can arrange to bypass the
password by the following registry change:

Instead, just run REGEDIT (Start à Run à Regedit)

Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Setup\Recover
yConsole
Set the DWORD SecurityLevel value to 1
