Check disk was scheduled to run at startup. Now when chkdsk starts it goes
through step 1 then starts step 2 then crashes and windows starts loading
again. If i skip the chkdsk within 10 seconds of windows restarting then
windows starts normally.

if i try to restore to a earlier date I get the message that restore could
not be done.

I also notice that I have restore points that are dated june 22 , 23 ,24 of
2006.

Now thats is the problem im sure. When the chkdsk see's this date i think it
causes the computer to crash.

Anyone have any suggestions.

Ran the hard drive manufacturers diagnostics on the drive yet?
And how are your backups? Current?

i just installed xp on this hard drive last week and it worked fine all week
till last night when the chkdsk started to appear. I dont have anything
important on the drive that i cant relaod.

Why do you think the drive is going bad.

thats why i just installed it because my last drive started to do the same
thing so i reformatted it and am now using it for storage.

Get the obvious out of the way first. Download and run the hard disk drive
manufacturer's diagnostics. This will confirm if the hardware is in fact a
problem. CHKDSKs usually do not just "happen" for no reason. Sure - it
could happen - but - doubtful.

And CHKDSK - it could care less about the DATES of the files on your drive.
heh

Although - I am with the other responder - check your BIOS time/date
settings.

Yeah it would certianly sound like hard drive might be getting ready to fail.
CHKDSK runs on it's own if there's some kind of event that causes Windows to
flag the hard drive as 'dirty'. Usually this is incorrect or unreadble file
data in the file system or files themselves.

The date might have been wrong to start with... since the system restore
snapshots got labled as the future. Although, like it was said, I don't
think CHKDSK cares about the dates, as long as they're consistant with the
system's date.

Just get some diagnostics run on that drive, sounds like it might be getting
ready to bite the dust.

Well i took the easy way out and just formatted and reinstalled XP. Compared
to the last installation this one looks perfect so far. Every drive and
hardware profile is supported. ive been introduceing the software that i want
to use back onto the hardrive and so far so good.

The reason i desided to just reboot is because there were to many things
wrong that i didnt like on this installation.

1. that i had a restore date of june 22 , 23, 24 on my restore calender.
2. That i had hardware and software that was not supported on the old
install.
That is now supported on the new install.
3. That i had some programs that i needed to remove but wouldnt.
4. It has been about 2 weeks since i installed it anyway.

All looks good so far. Thanks Mike V.
