My 250G harddisk seems missing many files (eg. some files can be opened when
i type the correct path and file name, but i cannot see the file in
explorer......)

I run CHKDSK /r and it run before entering login page....It seems hold on
step 2 ("CHKDSK is verifying indexes") for very long time......I already
waited for 36 hours for step 2 and no any progress.......should i continue
to wait (as seems no harddisk LED light) ?........... or any other method of
recover my files.........

Previously, I try to run chkdsk after login xp, only "I/O other" column in
taskmanager of Chkdsk process has some progress....but very very slow.....

Thanks for your comment and help.

you can run chkdsk from the recovery
console via your win cd.
