I find this odd...by sure lack of intellience i would like to see if anyone
has an idea....about four days ago my pc and odd times would have a chirp
sound go off and the taskbar go black shortly...a couple on startup,,,,but
mostly while surfing or opening or closing windows.....i've done everything i
could think of....defragged,,cleaned..scanned and checked for
viruses..whatever...all looks good....as a last resort i uninstalled several
recent programs....and the problem has gone away....well for the most
part...to just every now and then<once or twice daily,,,and i'm a long
time>......not like before when it was very often...i'd like to see if i
should be worried if may be a hardware prob or something....My laptop is only
seven months old...Inspiron 1501 xp home

Is the chirp coming from inside the computer or the speakers?

Could it be a StickyKey or accessibility feature making the chirping sound?

If you hit the SHIFT key 5-times, this is the default to bring up the
StickyKeys dialogue with a Settings button. You may wish to peruse these
settings, disable them all or at minimum, disable the sound effect on usage
to at least rule out a StickyKey or Accessibility function that your
keyboard/mouse/software may be inadvertently sending.

Well,,,,i checked the sticky keys and that was not the issue....also the
chirp is coming from the speakers.....after tons of searching around i found
something i thought may be worth further looking into....it may not be
related but i found a post somewhere about the xp crashing and the taskbar
turning black for a brief peroid...along with being locked up
momentarily.....This may apply to me,,,and one person suggested checking the
cpu temp and the fan to see if there may be a problem......so i searched
around more and could not find anything that my feeble mind to see about
checking the cpu temp? Like say i did know....and as soon as my prob comes up
again automatically check and see whats going on....Whad ya think?

I found my inspiron 1501 is making the same noise. I think it may be a
problem with the onboard fan trying to initialise as the left side of
the laptop has a fan but not sure about the right hand side. The only
reason i mention this is because the right hand side of the laptop is
extremely hot....

Am thinking about ringing dell to find out if there is a fan on the
right hand side so i can start ruling things out.

Beats the heck outta me what it is,,,i called the dealer here in town where
i bought it and explained the prob,,,,they had no clue what it could be..They
wanted me to bring it in to check for $35 just to see if it was something
under warrranty. Right now its been acting pretty good...maybe once every few
days...I can live with it as until it really starts messing up then i'll do
something....I don't think its my fan, but who knows...With it in my lap its
not too hot...unless it sits on it a certain way...Thanks for the imput....
