chipset driver before AHCI driver?

Steve

I'm trying to do a clean install of XP Pro on a Dell 8400. I can't
seem to get it to let me choose auto detect/AHCI in BIOS setup (as it
was originally); if I choose that, after I install the AHCI drivers,
the setup locks up a bit later. If I choose just the ATA bit in the
BIOS setup, the install goes fine. I'm thinking I have to install the
chipset drivers before the AHCI driver but I can't figure out how to do
that (via, usenet, Dell support, Intel d'loads). Any tips or pointers
as to where I'm going wrong?

Thanks

Youre in DOS at this time, the IE drivers don't run at this time, forget about
drivers unless youre running SATA,then at F6 option, install drivers from
floppy.
