Chinese windows has lost Chinese reading ability!

Please help, I live in Taiwan and have got a laptop from here, I have just
updated Windows from the official site, but have encountered a problem! The
Site has updated the following:
KB908531：Windows XP 安全性更新 <-- Security
KB900485：Windows XP 更新 <-- Update
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - 2006 四月 (KB890830)
SharePoint Team Services 安全性更新 <-- Security (KB911701)
KB911565：Windows XP 的 Windows Media Player 10 安全性更新 <-- Security
KB911562：Windows XP 安全性更新 <-- Security
KB911567：Outlook Express for Windows XP ç©å­˜å®‰å…¨æ€§æ›´æ–° <-- ? security
KB912812：Internet Explorer for Windows XP ç©å­˜å®‰å…¨æ€§æ›´æ–° <-- ? security

With these upgrades the computer has lost ALL ability to read Chinese in
anything but Internet Explorer and then it with a 'funky' new font. I need
step by step instructions as to how to fix the problem, with shorcut keys if
possible as I have no writing in any of the menus, I just have either lines,
or little boxes.

Is it just the font that has changed somewhere???? I am totally confused
and totally stuck!!!

The only problem I have with that is that I don't speak Chinese so it's a
toughy.
If no-one has any ideas then I will try.

Well I don't speak Chinese either.

I noticed that you had security update 908531 (security bulletin MS06-015)
listed in your first post.

See if this helps.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

918165 has screwed up plenty, maybe it messed up your Chinese.
