Chinese should be able to be read in Subject line in Preview Pane

All the versions of MS Outlook so far (including MS Outlook 2003) do not
display Chinese characters in the Subject field in the preview pane, instead
they all display unreadable strange codes. I have found it extremely
painful. However, the Chinese characters can be well displayed in the
Subject field in Outlook Express. I even installed a Chinese version of MS
Office 2003, including of course MS Outlook, the Subject field still does NOT
display any Chinese characters but only messed-up codes.

I am extremely bewildered that Microsoft development team even has NOT found
such a big error. I have tried to turn on every possbile muli-languages
function there is on MS OFFICE 2003 AND Internet Options, but it still does
not work.

This is the major reason that most Chinese using English Windows operating
system do not use MS Outlook. We want to use MS Outlook but find it
extremely inconvenient.

Also, in the MS OUTLOOK Contact or Address Book, one cannot put in Chinese
characters, the Name and other fields refuse to take Chinese. However,
strange enough, one can put Chinese in the Note area of the Contact. Also,
in Outlook Express, one can put in Chinese easily in the Contact.

You need to run Outlook 2003 in Unicode mode in order to have full
support of multibyte languages.

Search the Microsoft website for details, as you do not specify your
setup (Exchange Server, PST, OST, etc.)

My setup is the simplest: POP3, and SMTP. I can read the Chinese characters
in the email itself; but cannot read just the Chinese characters in the
Subject field in the Preview Pane.
