Hello,
I have been considering the Chieftec BX-series case for a new
custom-built computer, based on its reputation for good quality, internal
space, and reasonable price. However I am having trouble verifying exactly
what the internal structure of this case is.
Chieftec web sites at http://www.chieftec.com and
http://www.chieftecusa.com seem to be marginally programmed and exhibit some
broken links and conflicting information. According to this Chieftec news
page at http://www.chieftec.com/news/news.htm, an announcement posted
January 7, 2004 indicated that the BX series was configured to contain two
90mm fans in the side panel near the front, and that the hard drive bays in
the case were rotated 90 degrees so that these fans would blow air across
the drives. Additionally the bays now used tool-less rails to mount the hard
drives. Also on the BX feature page at
http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/NewBX.htm there are pictures of
the new drive bay configuration, although another picture further down in
the page shows the old layout instead.
However, I have not been able to find a distributor for this case that
makes any mention of the new layout, which I would much prefer over the old
layout. One of the biggest online retailers that I have personal experience
with, NewEgg.com, is listed as Chieftec's USA distributor. NewEgg claims to
sell some BX cases but their online photo of a BX case shows the old layout,
with two cages that are un-mounted with metal levers and pulled out.
While I have found some other online retailers that carry Chieftec
cases, none of them show any evidence of the new hard drive bay
configuration. Many of them don't even sell a "BX" case, including
TigerDirect, which is what is mentioned right on Chieftec USA's site.
At the front page of the ChieftecUSA site, there is mention of the "All
new! BX Series," and when I click that link it takes me to the "Chieftec
Case Designer." However no details are available about the case. Where it
says "Case Features: Click to enlarge," there are no clickable objects. The
large blank button at the bottom of the page does not link to anything.
Anyway... I'm hoping someone could tell me whether the BX case is indeed
being sold somewhere and whether or not it has the new layout as I
described.
Best Regards
