Check spelling in Notes in "Normal View"

Guest

I am using Office 2003. I have a problem with spelling and grammar checking
for Notes in my document. The problem is that I have ot been able to turn
on the automatic spelling option when in "Normal View" (or use F7 to check
the text). As a work-arpound I have found that the spelling checker works
fine in "Print Layout View".

I have set the language and ensured that automatic spelling is not disabled.
I have also turned spelling on under the "Spelling and Grammar" tab in the
"Tools", "Options" dialogue.

While I can swap to "Print Layout View" as a work-around in order to check
the spelling in notes, I feel that this should not be necessary.

Any ideas on how I can turn spelling checking on for "Normal View" notes,
please?

I believe that the spelling checker (and also Find and Replace) works by
layers. It will check spelling in the main document body first, then in
headers, footers, notes, text boxes, etc. But I could be wrong. You might
get a more authoritative answer in the
microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar newsgroup.

Thanks for this reply - the spell checker does not seem to work at all for
Notes in the normal view at all (i.e. it checks the whole document, but not
the Notes) - I would like to follow up by looking in the newsgroup as you
suggest: could you tell me how to access it, please.
