Check for Duplicates contacts preference is checked getting duplic

I have an Outlook 2007 Pro install on XPSP2. The option to check for
duplicate contacts is checked, but duplicates are being created in a new
folder when being copied in. Another user a couple of desks away has this
option checked and does not have this issue (it flags for duplicates
successfully). This machine is using the same release of Outlook as the
working one. This Office install was removed and reloaded but the condition
persists. A headscratcher.

"...being copied in" would seem to be the operative phrase here. I wonder
what it means.

Russ, when I create a new folder and copy one set of Contact information to
it, no issues. I then go to a second folder that has contacts added by
others - in some cases, from business cards or otehr sources and the info is
substantially the same. I highlight these contacts and copy them to the new
folder that was created. On all other machines I see a prompt that there is
a contact with this information ... woudl I like to replace or merge it or
cancel. On this particular system, I do not get such a prompt - it simply
creates a duplicate. In outlook's Options / Contact Options, the top check
box says, if checked, it will check for duplicate contacts. It isn't doing
that and I am trying to figure out why.

We'd still need more troubleshooting information at this end. You're the
best person to figure out what is different between "all other machines" and
the one that doesn't work. Is this an Exchange Mailbox or a PST?
Personally, I've never found Outlook's native duplicate checking ability to
be robust or reliable, and I usually end up using one of the free duplicate
checkers when I am done.
