Once you have started Check Disk how can you stop it?
Rebooting starts the Check Disk again without providing a
countdown to stop it.

Check disk is making repairs and stopping it may one time prove fatal to your harddrive or the operating system. If the countdown
option has been removed from your use by Windows, it may be in the process of fixing something on the drive.

Bill,

Normally, prior to CHKDSK running, you have the opportunity to stop it from
running (countdown).

Do you have a USB keyboard? If so, then the drivers needed for the keyboard
to function are not loaded at the point in the boot process where CHKDSK
runs and you will not have the opportunity to stop CHKDSK from running.
