check disk runs every time I start up

This is about the check disk that runs on startup whenever there has
been an illegal shutdown, such as turning off power while XP is still
running etc-

This runs almost every time I start up lately, even when I have shut
down properly and there have been no problems. I tried letting it run,
it still runs next startup.

I disabled the "run checkdisk on startup", but it still runs.

I'm sure its a leftover from a s/w install and/or uninstall.

Where does XP startup look to see if it should do this drive checkup?
