check disk error

when i run check disk and when it goes on step 4 of 5
computer hangs at 39 % and give error massage unknown
hard disk error. i press send report. the reply we can
not read your hard disk. consult with your vendor.
how i can crrect this

If your hard drive is able to boot into WinXP I would move or copy
your important files ASAP and go to the
manufacturers website and download a diagnostic utility. Sounds like
drive may be on it's way out.
