ok this is hard 2 explain and i dont really know what forum 2 put it in so i
hope some1 can move it to the correct area

i want to change the default path programs are directed to when they place
files in my documents
an example when a game or program is installed and it creates a file in

C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\my documents\(GTA San Andreas User
Files (as an example)

id like to change it so it goes to something like this to unclutter the my
documents folder

C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\my documents\data\(GTA San Andreas User
Files (as an example)

Unless the application has a Preference or Options, that allows you to
change the folder, your locked into what the designers have set.

Sometimes, the Registry entry for the
Current_user/Software/softwareentry-for-game, may have an undocumented
registry setting.

Change the Default Location of the My Documents Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310147

Note: Program should use the CSIDL value to locate the path for a special
folder. Poorly designed programs tend to default to "%userprofile%\my
documents" folder, whereas the user may have relocated the folder already.
I'd say that it's the fault of that particular application, not Windows, as
Windows provides all the API needed to locate the special folder path
programmatically. It's upto the third-party software manufacturers to use
that facility.

CSIDL:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...llcc/platform/shell/reference/enums/csidl.asp

CSIDL values provide a unique system-independent way to identify special
folders used frequently by applications, but which may not have the same
name or location on any given system.
