Changing your license key from a hax0red key to a legit one

weirdstuff

Hi there,

I recently got my filthy hands on an MSDN subscription (which made me
very happy) and I have been trying to get all my software "legit"

Im not proud of it, but this is the first time I get my hands on
"legal" Microsoft software. Which is cool and all, except my WinXP SP2
won't accept my new legit license key.

The thing is that I am trying to avoid reinstalling everything on my
machines. So what I want to do is switch my machine to my newly
acquired license key. I have tried this method:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=328874

Time and again to no avail... It almost seems like my current pirated
version of windows only accepts corporate licenses ... or something? I
think that is the problem anyways...

Does anybody know how I can "trick" my illegal windows into becoming
legal? :)

Thanks!

You'll need a "Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
and then proceed with a "Repair Install".

If MickeyMouse is making it so difficult for you to go "legal", then maybe
they're trying to tell you something? Possibly they're saying ... "keep
using what you've been using"?

You have to do a "repair installation" with the new "legal" copy of Windows for it to take the new
Key Code.
The repair installation should not cause you to loose any programs or file, but it is best to backup
first just to be safe.

Not to belittle, Richard, but just so you know, you have
used the wrong word.

"loose" in the sentence above is the word for "not tight
enough."

The word you want is the word "lose", with ONE "o".

As in, "...The repair installation should not cause you to
lose any programs or file, but it is best to backup..."

(the ellipses [ ... ] indicate that the words I recreated
are a FRAGMENT of what you said, not the entire sentence.

Good luck!

Actually, I thought Tallahassee was very nice about it. It
certainly would not have bothered me if he had said something
about a post of mine the way he did. Then there is always

Zero your drive. Then install the legit copy of XP fresh.
