How do I change the name of the workgroup on WinXP Home and Pro.? I
understand that to network computers they have to have the same
workgroup name and mine are different!

Just renaming will probably not work. You need to run the Network Setup
Wizard.
To start the Network Setup Wizard on a Windows XP computer, use either of
these two ways:

1) Open the Network Connections folder. Under Network Tasks, click Set up a
home or small office network.

2) Click Start | All Programs | Accessories | Communications | Network Setup
Wizard.

Thanks for the suggestion..
I am not sure that the network wizard will work for me, I have an ADSL
router with two computers connected through a switch to share the
Internet connection and want to be able to share a few folders and a
printer. I was going to follow the instructions given in:

http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/net.asp

I read somewhere that in order for this to work, both computers had to
be in the same workgroup. Any comment would be much appreciated as I
know very little about this side of computing although I usually manage
to muddle through eventually!

1. Right click on My Computer and select Properties
2. Click on the Computer Name tab
3. Click the Change button

Here you can change both the name your computer will display on the
network, and the workgroup name.

After you change the workgroup name, you'll probably have to reboot
before it takes affect.
