Where do I go to change this and what is it called when you need to change
the allotted time when the computer powers down while you're using it? I
search, stop and look and search again and if I'm reading the page or take a
quick phone call, then the screen goes blank aafter a short time and I have
to renter my password to get back online. I checked internet setting,
programs, control anel, etc but i just don't see what seems to fit.

Control Panel>Power options Properties
Look at Power schemes and Advanced tabs
Power schemes will lenghten time
Advanced can enable or disable password requirement

Sorry.
"Power Options properties" is in/under "Performance and Maintenance" Category.

Two places to look:
Display Properties > Screensavers: option that requires a logon to dismiss
the screensaver. You can increase the amount of time or disable the logon
requirement entirely. Similar options in Power Options for amount of time
allowed before standby and requirement for a logon when resuming.
