Changing the Profilelist (ProfileImagePath) in regedit

Hi

My account has recently been reset on the domain, same user name but
different id (it's call the uid or sid?). This caused the profile to be
recreated. I have done:

A. change the security settings of the original profile file so that
with the new "me" can access the files. I used the other profile files
as a guide

B. use regedit to changed the ProfileImagePath of the new "me" to my
original profile.

Here are my questions:

1. What caused the permission of the original profile to change? I was
under the impression that even if the creator of the files no longer
exists, as Administrator I should be able to view the files. I was
able to enter the top level of the profile (Document and
Settings\username), as it's owned by the Admin. However, from there on
I couldn't open anything. I get an access denied message. It wasn't
until I changed the permissions then I can open these files and
folders.

Are there any steps that I can take or things I can check to stop this
from happening?

2. When I login as "me" with everything set, I get the colours schemes
of my original desktop, but many other settings like the quick launch
bar, background picture, taskbar settings has all been lost. What cause
that? Did I miss something? (Curious, as I logon my background pic is
shown for a sec and then after everything is settled, the picture is
gone.)

Any advice and guidance is appreciated.
Thanks.

For question 2, I worked out the answer. I didn't put "me" in admin
group after it was recreated. After assigning it to admin group, all
the rest is fine. I didn't think if had an effect, but I guess I was
wrong.

Still need help on question 1 though...

I'm not sure I follow the logistics of all the changes but it sounds like
you're still dealing with a permissions issue. When it comes to documents
and other personal files, "owner" rights supersede administrator rights. If
XP views your new account as a different person than the one that created
the files then it would deny access to those protected files. It doesn't
know that you're still you. It just sees the SIDs. To regain access, take
ownership:
