Changing the network adapter on backup domain controller!!

Hi,

We currently have 3 domain controllers (GCs also). One of the
backup domain controller we would like to change the network adapter
(onboard)
to the add-on gigabit network adapter. It means the IP address of that
domain
controller will be bound to the new add-on gigabit network adapter.

I planned to do off-network the IP changing from the old onboard 100Mbps
adapter to new 1000Mbps adpater.

Please advise whether any concern about problem might occur for this
action!!!

my personal advice is to install the new network adapter ... start the
server ... disable the onboard adapter and configure the new one; after that
restart netlogon.

I agree with Andrei.

Have a quick look at the following article. It's not exactly what you're
after but can give one or two pointers.

Remember: DNS! Ensure that clients are pointing to another DNS as well as
this one. Ensure this server isn't listening on the IP you're going to
change only, and remember to remove the old A record from DNS.

Hi all,

Thanks for your response. I actually did not attempt to change the IP
address,
I just want to bind the current IP from onboard NIC to the add-on NIC, IP
address will stay the same.

I plan:

- Installed the new add-on NIC, connect this to a seperate switch A
- Start the server, connect the current active on-board NIC to a seperate
switch A
- Disable the current onboard NIC, configure the IP address for the add-on
board NIC


I was wondering while disabling onboard NIC, whether the system releases the
IP address
that bound to the onboard or we have to assign any invalid IP address for
the onboard and
bind the previous IP address to the new add-on NIC for the domain
controller, after that
connect it to the production network!!

I think it you'll receive an warning telling you that the IP address it's
already on use on another network adapter ... but I think it's just an
warning. Or before of this, you can change the IP address of the old network
adapter.
