Changing the Icon for Contact items

hi All,
I am trying to change the message class and the PR_ICON_INDEX for
Contact items using the MAPI interfaces. However the icon index always
seems to get reset to 512. I suspected that the icon index may be reset
via some internal logic if the message class has changed. So I split
the logic into 2 seperate transactions i.e. Set the message class, Save
with KEEP_OPEN_READONLY flag, open the item entry again set the icon
and save the changes. This also does not seem to help.
Anyone have any clues about this one?

I figured this one out ... Every time we update the item through
Outlook or Outlook OM the icon gets reset to its default value. The
same is not true for emails however where the icon index is persisted.
