changing shortcut credentials

How can I change the credentials of a shortcut to a
remotely accessed directory so that a user, other than
the one currently logged in, can get into that directory
while still logged in to the current user? I want to
avoid having to switch users to access this shared
directory.

Right click the shortcut, choose: run as. Pick the user and pass to "run"
the shortcut.

I did some research and the shortcut I want to Run as
another user is on the desktop. Think this may be my
problem cause I know about the 'Run as' command and did
not realize that it won't work with icons on the desktop.

Most shortcuts on the desktop do the run as just fine. I just tried with
three different ones and it worked fine. Office shortcuts and some others
don't display the run as for some reason, but many I created do and work
fine.

This shortcut is a connection to a directory on a server.
I can have the map drive connect as another user, but we
a little security for the owner of the directory in
addition to the user login on the XP local machine. When
you go to the Properties of the Shortcut and then click
on the Advance button, the next window is all grayed out,
like there's some security feature disabling one from
select the one or both of the two choices given. Any
ideas?

I believe those options only become active when the user account your using
does not have admin rights. If the user your logged into doesn't have admin
rights then the run with different credentials and the run as becomes
active.
