Changing Registered Name

F

Fishy

I have XP. In documents & settings, I have accounts for Administrator
and Emily. I have changed my logon information from Emily to
"Registerd User." The folder in D&S has not changed names, however,
and my name (Emily) appears in metadata and paths. I want to get rid
of Emily and have Registerd User instead.

How do I do that?
Do I need to edit the registry?

There are two methods to accomplish the task.

#1 - Rename the user profile folder manually using Windows Explorer (running from a different user account), and then change the ProfileImagePath pointer in the registry.

#2 - Make an exact duplicate copy of a profile, using the Copy To option.

The profile home path / folder name cannot be changed without editing the registry. Use one of these methods:

Method 1
----------
How to rename or move a User Profile folder?:

Read the *warnings* mentioned in that article.

Method 2
----------
Or, you can create another user account, with your preferred user name, and
then copy the files & settings to the newly created profile.

For more information, see article "Copy a user profile"
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...ll/proddocs/en-us/sysdm_userprofile_copy.mspx

Method 3:
----------
If you don't mind losing the customizations made in the current profile, follow this method:

(This method does not retain the user settings)
