changing read only attributes

In XP Home I am trying to change a folder (and subfolders
and files)to remove the read only flag. In properies the
change appears to be accepted but when I reopen
properties read only is reinstated. Any advice welcome.
 
Hi,

I've the same message.
It's really strange.
There is the same in XP, and 2003 server.
We couldn't change the attribute of the directory.
I can change for the files but not the directory.
Help?
