hi friends
I have an Asus laptop that it's preinstalled windows-xp language is
Italian and I wanna change it to English.
how can I do this?
Is there any way to change the windows language after installing it?
or do I really have to re-install the whole windows and format my
laptop?

Unfortunately, you will have to clean install an English version as the
Italian one cannot be converted.

Hi,

Purchase an English language version of Windows XP, download any needed
drivers from Asus (retail versions do not always have all needed drivers for
laptops), then format the laptop and create a clean installation. You cannot
switch the base installed language, the exception is corporate installations
with the mui, and this still requires that the installation initially be in
english.

Nope, you can add support for other languages, but this does not change the
installation language.
or do I really have to re-install the whole windows and format my laptop?

To get a full english language install, yes. You might contact Asus about
getting an english language install CD to replace the one that came with the
system.

Why can't he use the language packs? If I remember correctly, you can
install different packs.

Hi Tony,

I stated that in answer to the second question. Support for other languages
(keyboard, web pages, etc.) can be added, but it does not change the base
installation language. Only the MUI can do that, and that can only be done
when the installation is initially in the english language and then only by
a corporation that has purchased that tool as part of their volume license -
it's not available to the general consumer.

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
WinXP (in whatever language you want) to perform a clean installation.
