changing prefereces; how to

My Adobe Illustrator lesson book says to delete the
current Adobe Illustrator 10.0 preferebces file, in order
to restore the tools and palettes to their original
default settings.
The problem is that I can't locate it. Where is it and
how do I access it, please?

This is an issue for Adobe tech support. You could look in the
Illustrator folder in Program Files, but unless you are very sure which
file is the Preferences file, I wouldn't mess with anything. Contact
Adobe for help with their products.
