Changing partition size

Guest

My 80 gig drive is partitioned with drive C : 20 gigs & drive D : 60 gigs.
Is there a way that I can take 10 gigs from D drive and transfer it to C
drive without having to buy a program or reformatting my drive and
repartitioning.

20 GB is MORE than adequate to run the OS and apps in. Have you moved all
the Users documents and email etc to the D drive?

Short of reformatting and repartitioning, there's no way to do
this with Windows facilities. A third-party program is required.

Partition Magic is the best-known such program, but there are
freeware/shareware alternatives. One such program is BootIt Next
Generation. It's shareware, but comes with a free 30-day trial,
so you should be able to do what you want within that 30 days. I
haven't used it myself, but it comes highly recommended by
several other MVPs here.

BootItNG from www.bootitng.com will do the resizing for you.

When you download the program you have a 30 day free trial period with
full functionality before you have to purchase it.

For a one-shot partitioning change you can download the file but *do
not* install it. Instead just create the diskette. Boot your
computer with the diskette and go into the maintenance mode. You can
make non-destructive changes to your partitions there.

But make sure you have all your critical data backed up before you
make changes. Accidents do happen, and Murphy's Law seems to
guarantee that if you do not have a backup then you will need it, and
if you do have a backup it won't be needed.

Good luck

BootItNG ( www.bootitng.com )offers a free, 30-day evaluation download
that can do that for you.
