Changing Multiple Operating Systems

S

Shane Milward

Hi there,

I have two desktops and on one machine I have two hard drives.

On my C: Drive I have XP Home installed, now instead of upgrading, I wanted
to use both operating systems so I have installed Vista Premium on my other
Hard Drive which is K:

I can access both operating systems and both are fine, is there a way I can
change the drive letters over - so far it's a no go area, like changing C:
to K: and vice versa...

It's just on boot up, it boots vista k: by default unless I select otherwise
and I need XP Home to be default.

If I can't swap hard drive letters, how could I change boot option, I have
found some info on the internet but none in great detail...

Many thanks

Type msconfig into the 'Start Search' entry box and look on the Boot tab
for 'Set as Default'. Change the default to XP Home.

you cannot change the boot drive letter.. sorry

since you are using dual boot, look at this utility (free)
http://www.vistabootpro.org/

See my other new response to your other question.. there is a way to install
MS private folder using the command prompt

Install the free boot manager utility EasyBCD from:

www.neosmart.net

It'll give you the option of which os to boot.

there is no need to install a 3rd party boot manager...

as long as the operating systems are Microsoft the vista boot manager can
handle them..
thats why I suggested vistaboot pro that handles the microsoft boot managers
very well

Yes I used the vista boot manager and it's all sorted now,

Thanks again!!

Uhhh...hello...last time I checked VistaBootPro was a third part
application utility that will manage the MS boot bcd.exe.
But I prefer EasyBCD.

its not a bootmanager itself... it manages the vista boot manager...

you can then remove it
