Changing multiple heading styles

Is there a way to select a group of headings and move them all "up" one, or
"down" one?

For example, grab all in a list of headings, and what is Header 2, I want
Header 1, what is Header 3, I want Header 2, and so on.

Yes, select the headings (either using Select All in the Styles and
Formatting task pane or by using Ctrl+click) and promote/demote using the
toolbar buttons or Alt+Shift+Left/Right Arrow.
