changing from workgroup to domain

Hi,

I am currently working at a place that uses a workgroup
and in the months to come, we`ll be changing to a domain.
My question is, how to keep the current user profiles from
the workgroup to be incorporated into the domain
structure. I`ve built some test DC and added some test
computers to the domain and it created new account folders
for the current users. I don`t really want to edit the
registry to link the current user profile folders to the
domain and eliminating the new ones that are created. I
know from past experience from my last job, if I copy the
user profile to the server, delete that user on the
computer, join the domain, log on as that user, then log
back in as admin and copy the user data to the folder, it
will work. But that is very time consuming, especially
when I will be doing 75 user accounts, and 50 of them
remotely over a 2 day weekend. Any suggestions, links,
etc would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,

You have to do it by hand... i don´t think you need the complete profile...
because that is a mixture of several things... maybe you can go along with
"My Documents", "Favorites" and "Desktop" folders and be aware of any
special software like "Palm Desktop", "Nokia" phone and others that uses
local disk to write files... It all depends on the configuration of
hardware+software...

Hi,

Thanks, I was afraid I would have to do that. I will just
upload the user profile, delete the profile and account on
the PC, add to the domain, have the user log on then
transfer data back to the account. Was just hoping I
wouldn`t have to go that method
