Changing from 32 bit XP Prof to X64 version

I have been running Photoshop CS and CS2 for a year now on my new computer.
I have been using 2 G's 4 X Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 with no problem.
I upgraded to 4 gigs 4 X Kingston KVR400X643CA/1G. My computer recognized
the change and still runs fine showing 4.096 Total MBs but Available physical
memory is only 2.9GB. Also Photoshop will not recognize the extra ram and I
really need at least 3 G's for this application in my business.

I have been in touch with Adobe over this and I am told that the problem is
with XP Prof. Apparently the normal version (like mine is 32 bit and I need
64 bit. I was told that Microsoft would allow me to change the existing
version for the X64 one.
Is that correct? If it is, it would save my skin. I had no idea that the OS
cared at all about X32 versus X64 (I admit I really don't understand the
connection).

If it is any help my video card is AGP Radeon 9200 SE drvr ati2dvag.dll
version 6.14.10.6462. Processor is Intel X86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4
29992Mhz.

Thanks for your reply Andrew. If I were more knowledgeable about xp there is
no doubt your response would be sufficient, but I don't know where to find
the page you mentioned. I've looked everywhere I could think of.

No, it's no longer correct. When Microsoft first released WinXPx64 to
manufacturers last April, they also offered a "technology exchange
program" so that people meeting certain criteria could exchange their
32-bit OEM WinXP Pro licenses for the WinXPx64 license. If memory
serves, that program ended in July or August.
