Changing font colors in Word XP

When I revise large documents I often change the font color of the earlier
version to blue or red and when I have made the updates change the font color
to black. I will highlight the paragraph that I want to change and then
continue. Unfortunately, this often converts the entire document to black.
If I hit the undo button the remaining document reverts to the original color
and the paragraph that I wanted to change to black remains black. The
strange thing is that this does not happen every time I change font color,
but probably 80% of the time. Any ideas on how I can prevent this from
happening. It's causing havoc with my editing routine.

Thanks Suzanne, that did the trick. In response to whether using Track
Changes would be more efficient. I am a frequent user of track changes (in
fact I'm a great advocate of it) but for my purposes here, the font color is
as much of a "where am I in my revision process" tool rather than needing to
see what the changes actually are.

Your response was great and very timely.
Thanks again.
