Changing folder name?

Guest

I set up my computer, so that I have a folder C:/documents and setting/my
name. I wish to change the name of this folder from my name to something
else, but when I try to do so it says that it is a Windows system folder and
is required for Windows to run properly and that it cannot be moved or
renamed.

Is there an easy way to get around this and rename it? I'd be grateful for
any advice! :)

There is no easy way.........but there is a way.
First you will need to set up 2 new users.one with your new name and another
lets call it B....with admin privileges
then you need to restart and sign in as user B
right click MyComputer/Properties/advanced
under User Profiles/settings.....you should now see laa of the users
highlight your old user name and then click "copy to"
On the next screen browse.........to C:/documents and settings /new user
name and click OK
Ok your way out..........this will copy all of your setting from your old
name to your new name.
Restart computer and sign in under your new name.
Double check to make sure it all works and is the same.....before you delete
your old user name and that B user under
control panel/user accounts.

Hi,

The userprofile folders cannot be renamed, only the associated "friendly"
name can be changed. You would need to create a new account with the
preferred name in order to have one with that name. You can then copy the
old profile into it using the procedure below (but it's a lot of work for
just a name change):

Note that one step not listed in the article is that after creating the
destination profile you must log into it once first to create the necessary
file structure before you do the copy procedure.

The user profile folders (C:\Documents and Settings\Username)
_cannot_ be renamed, even if the associated user account has been.
So, your best course of action would be to log on using the built-in
Administrator account, create a new user account, with the username
desired. You can then delete the old user account(s).
