Changing Excel to .dat format

I am running Windows XP and using Outlook 2002. When I attach an Excel file
to my emails the recipient gets an attachemnt that has a .dat extension. Why
is the file changing.
 
First thing to do is to make sure that you're not sending your mail in Rich
Text Format. Try Plain Text or HTML instead.
