changing EmailAddress and EmailType / EX to SMTP

I sometimes copy contacts from my Exchange address book, to a contacts folder
which resides in my non-Exchange associated POP3-Outlook profile. When I do
this, I cannot use the contact to send SMTP messages because the
EmaillAddress and EmailType reference the Exchange address which is not a
valid SMTP address... (The EmailAddress is set to an Active Directory key,
and the EmailType==EX). I wrote a kludgy macro to parse the EmailDisplayName
and to set the EmailAddress, and to set the EmailType=SMTP. Then I lost my
macro… :)

Any recommendations on a better method for copying contact information from
an Exchange address book to a POP3/SMTP Outlook contacts folder in such a way
that does not require me to translate EmailAddress and EmailType?

Hi Jamie, I wish I could help you. This is pretty bold of me but I have a
problem that sounds close to your question. I had a number of Outlook 2000
contacts that I forwarded individually to another PC. They were received in
Verizon/Yahoo web mail directed to a mailbox for that sender address. I
realized they couldn't be received in Outlook and had Verizon/Yahoo help me
tonight. I set up an incoming and outgoing account from Yahoo and moved all
the messages to the inbox and hit send/receive in outlook and they all
transferred to Outlook. (Now appearing to be gone from Verizon/Yahoo web
mail). BUT, when I open the e-mails the contacts are not appearing as
attacments with all the detail. It looks like a forwarded message with no
contact info on them. Do you know if that info gone forever?

Also note that Outlook 2007 eliminates this issue by showing only SMTP addresses for all GAL entries.
