Windows XP. My desktop icons have white/grayish lettering for their text.
How may I change this to another color? Thanks.

Doug, are you primarily trying to gain readability, or a certain look?
For readability, you can invoke "Drop Shadows" to give a darker background
to your text.
Press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key together.
On the Advanced tab, click Settings.
In the scroll box, go down to "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the
desktop".
Apply and OK.
Otherwise, you can go with mrtee's solution.

Dear T.:

Removing the drop shadowing fixed the "problem" for me. I am using a
ministry screen background, which did not work well with the white/gray icon
text color. Now that the drop shadow is unchecked, I get a dark blue
background for the text. Now all is readable. Thanks.

Glad you got it fixed. Readability is pretty important!

I'm having extreme difficulty with readability since purchasing a new
computer with XP. It was not there in the beginning, but at some time about
a week ago, my screen developed a yellowish cast. I'm also having problems
with the colors, in general, such as I've never had before. I've made change
after change in control panel/display, and nothing makes it better. The text
looks slightly blurry and has a yellowish cast. I don't see a "windows" key
on my new Gateway keypad or I would try what you suggested. For example,
when XP starts up, the letters are not pure white--they have a
yellowish/ivory cast to them. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jean
