Changing default search configuration

Mike Starr

When I use the Windows tool to search for files, it searches the directories
I instruct it to search in but it searches through every one of the zip
files in those directories. This is a royal pain in the patoot because I've
got a lot of zip files and it really slows down the searches. Is there any
way to instruct the Windows tool not to search inside zip files??

Also, every time I search for files, it uses it's own headings in the search
results. I can change it in the window (I don't need "Relevance" but I do
want "Date Modified" as I often have multiple copies of the same file. Is
there a way to change the default headings for the search results window?

Thanks

Mike

Install a 3rd party zip program and then...
Un-register the zip and cab file dlls
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll
regsvr32 /u cabview.dll

Or if you do not want a 3rd party program...
[[Stop Search from Scanning ZIP files:

Un-register the zip and cab file dlls, then re-register them after that.

Before Search:
regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll
regsvr32 /u cabview.dll

After Search:
regsvr32 cabview.dll
regsvr32 zipfldr.dll ]]

Thanks, Wesley...

I've unregistered the dlls and I'll see how that works out. Thanks much for
the link to the kellys korner website. A great site and I'm planning on
doing a lot of exploring there.
