Changing Default File Type in Works Word Processor

How do I set the Microsoft Works Word Processor (Word
2000) to save as a .doc file by default instead of
the .wps which no one seems to be able to open? I'm way
too cheap to buy the full version of word or office : )

If you actually have Word (which comes as part of Works Suite, not Works),
then it should be saving as a .doc already, but you can set the file type on
the Save tab of Tools | Options. If you're saving as a .wps file, most
likely you have only the Works word processor.
