changing AD to a .local

Howdy.
I have configured AD on W2K Server. I named it
<servername.companyxyz.com> How can I change it to
<servername.companyxyz.local>? OR... Do I really need to
change it if the workstations resolve an nslookup to the
server's internal IP address? I have no DNS errors in
event viewer and all workstations can see the internet. I
was told a ".com" AD server would cause major network DNS
traffic on the LAN.
Thanks,
Kenny

It will cause no problems unless you have the same domain name for website
and email. If that is the case all you have to do is add a record for www
and mail to the internal DNS server to point to the ip address of the
hosting server. This is the only things i am aware of. If you use ftp or
any other service yourdomain.com the you will need to add those records in
dns also.
