changes to attachments not saving when forwarded

When I open an attachment in an email and make changes to the attachment I
hit save but when I forward it the changes I made do not show up in the
forwarded attachment.

I noticed that when I hit save it is saving the attachment to a temporary
file which I believe is the problem. Is there a way to change the default so
my changes are not lost when I forward the email.
 
You can only do that with Office programs. With WinMail you have to save
the attachment, then make the changes, and then save the changes.
